Below are the definitions of some terms use at Apapa Bulk Terminal.

 
ITEM 1.

INWARD TRAFFIC

 

This is the addition of import cargo and domestic incoming cargo discharge at ABTL Terminal.


ITEM 2.

OUTWARD TRAFFIC

 

This is the addition of export and domestic out-going (Northbound) cargo shipped from the ABTL Terminal.


ITEM 3.

DOMESTIC CARGO

 

Coastal cargo originating from a Port or a Terminal in Nigeria and destined for another Port or Terminal Port in Nigeria.


ITEM 4.

THROUGHPUT

 

This is the totality of inward and outward cargo handled at the ABTL within a given period, i.e. inward and outward traffic. Throughput can be equal to Import + Export and Crude Oil tonnage.


ITEM 5.

TERMINAL TRAFFIC

 

Relates to the intrinsic tonnage of cargo handled and counted only once at the Terminal.


ITEM 6.

VESSEL CLEARED

 

A vessel having called at the NPA signal station and/or gains berthing facilities at the ABTL Terminal, and eventually steams out of the territorial waters.


ITEM 7.

VESSEL WAITING

 

A vessel that is anchored at the signal station and waiting for ABTL berthing clearance.


ITEM 8.

BULK CARGO

 

This refers to cargo not packed in any identifiable unit or container, e.g. Gypsum, Wheat, Barytes, Petroleum Products, Cement, etc.


ITEM 9.

BREAK BULK CARGO

 

Cargo packed in identifiable unit, e.g. Boxes, Cases, Crates, Bags, Barrels, Sacks, etc.


ITEM 10.

DEAD WEIGHT TONNAGE (DWT)

 

Ship actual cargo carrying capacity up to the load line measured in tones of 2240ibs.


ITEM 11.

GROSS REGISTERED TONNAGE (GRT)

 

This consists of the under-deck tonnage plus every permanent covered and closed-in space on or above the tonnage deck without any exception.


ITEM 12.

NET REGISTERED TONNAGE (NRT)

 

Ship internal space after deducting engine and navigational space measured in 100 cubit feet.


ITEM 13.

SHIP TURN-AROUND TIME

 

Time taken by a ship in the process of entering ABTL Terminal, discharging cargo and/or loading and leaving the Terminal.


ITEM 14.

DRAUGHT

 

Depth of water needed to float a Ship without running aground.


ITEM 15.1

CONTINGENCY DEPOSIT/PROVISIONAL BILLING

 

The amount in US$ required to be paid to ABTL by the vessel owner and/or their registered agent prior to the commencement of cargo operations based on value of cargo dues and berth rent.


ITEM 15.2

REGISTERED AGENT

 

These are registered Shipping Agents with the ABTL and who have paid their N5,000 registration fee as operating fee with the Terminal.
